Feeling Hot! Hot! Hot!

I was pleasantly surprised to be nominated in the annual Blogger's Choice Awards for Hottest Daddy Blogger. Imagine that!

My site was nominated for Hottest Daddy Blogger!

So, I took my own impartial survey, and Mrs. Nod agrees that I am the hottest Daddy blogger. (I'm satisfied with the judge's decision.)

So whether you think I'm hot-off-the-presses, hot-under-the-collar, hot-to-trot, or just hotter than 98 degrees, I'd appreciate your vote, just for fun. And it's free!

While you're there, give a shout out (and a vote) to my peeps at Shoved to Them and Acts of the Apostasy!

Last Chance

There are a mere few hours left to get your vote in for WBN as Best Potpourri of Popery.
That's right, just when you thought the Catholic blogosphere's snarkiest awards contest would never end -- it ends tonight.

WBN would like to thank all the people we hounded who voted. You guys are the best!

Pabstbier Is Pope Beer

If it's good enough for the Pope it's good enough for me!

Weideneder Brau Vertriebs GmbH, a family-owned brewery in nearby Tann, Germany, has created a special brew called Pabst Bier/Pope Beer. The label reads, "Dedicated to the Great Son of our Homeland, Pope Benedict XVI."

"We consider it to be our obligation to appreciate the election of a Bavarian Pope in a Bavarian way," says brewery Weideneder Bräu, which is local to where young Joe Ratzinger grew up. "The Pope’s Beer is a festival beer of highest quality containing only exquisite raw materials, presenting a mild character and a light colour, brewed strictly in accordance with the German beer purity law." h/t Ship of Fools

Speaking of the Pope, there is still time to vote WBN to victory in the Best Potpourri of Popery category. We are going strong, but we need to fight to the finish!

Vote! Vote! Vote! Minions awake! Then you too can share in basking in the glory of a truly pointless award. We wants it.

Aka The Mom is giving out donuts, WBN is offering homebrew!

Onward Cannonball Bloc!

When You Don't Vote

When you don't vote, some carpetbagger comes into your District and wins the election by 317 votes. Dave Marsden doesn't live here. Now I'm pissed.

Senate District 37 (Fairfax County)

39 of 39 precincts reporting

Marsden 11,943 (50.62%)
Hunt 11,626 (49.28%)
Write-Ins 21 (0.08%)

The U.S. Census is coming up; based on population figures, district lines get redrawn. Does this district look like it got gerrymandered at some point?

Voting Jam

I just voted in a special primary for the 37th district for state senator with 400 of my closest friends.

Seriously, the line was out the door and around the block for 4 hours, no exaggeration. I met my Attorney General, shook hands with two of the candidates (one goes to my church, the other to my neighbor's church), members of my neighbor's congregation, two guys from my men's group, and a guy who thought he knew me but turns out I know the guy he thought I was -- all by standing in line to vote.

I have never missed an opportunity to vote in any election or primary since I came of age. It's a civic and moral obligation which I take seriously. And the more local the election, the more direct impact it has on your life.

I took Mrs. Nod and the kids with me the first time; she voted, I waited in the car with the kids. An hour and a half later she returned. It was past bedtime, so I took them all home and then returned solo to wait another 45 minutes in line for my chance to vote. I got back just 15 minutes prior to the 10 PM deadline. Since I was in line, I got to vote -- finally.

I can honestly say I have never had to wait that long to vote (2 hours 15 minutes) -- ever, for any office. Me and my new best friends from line have a date to go fishing come spring, however.

What's On My Ballot?

If you don't know what's on your ballot this Nov 4, except the Presidential tickets, maybe you should find out now.

If you're in Virginia go here: https://www.voterinfo.sbe.virginia.gov/PublicSite/Public/FT2/PublicElections.aspx

There are Presidential, Senate, and House seats all available. There is also a Parks and Recreation Bond in my county.

Normally, parks and recreation is the only kind of bond that I'll vote for, but since we are all in such a massive amount of DEBT (that's what a bond is) as a country, I don't think I'll add to the burden this time around.
