Self Appointed Experts

I just got done with the required Diocesan child sexual abuse prevention presentation. Yes, it was needed; yes it was annoying being from 7pm - 11pm, but that's when I could make it. I have no problem with doing required paperwork and jumping through hoops if it means our kids are even an ounce safer.

What I do have a problem with is all the self-appointed experts in the room. There were a couple of loudmouth people in the room who just felt the need to pontificate on What Should Be Done and How To Teach Kids How To Be Safe, and I Can Just Tell When Someone's A Child Molester.

Shut up. The loudmouths in the room are the ones who need to pay the most attention, because they haven't got a clue and they proved it by opening said mouths. The lady giving the presentation did a heroic job of quashing all that self-perpetuating chatter. It was late, we'd all already had a long day, and nobody particularly wanted to be there in the first place.

If these self righteous experts have so much to say, they can volunteer to teach the next course, but in the meantime: zip it; get the needed information; and let us all go home to tell our wives and kids how much we love and appreciate them.

Media Bias Against Catholics Even When Not Part Of The Story

So the irritant of the day involves the last acceptable prejudice: anti-Catholicism. This is a minor case, but it shows the mindset of people who have it in for the clerics and people of faith.

A Kentucky church ordains a sex offender as a minister. The church is a Pentecostal one, not Catholic. Everybody there knows what this guy did and that he served a 5 year prison sentence for pedophilia -- and they're ok with that. (Not me, but they are and it's their church.)

So a former leader at the church is protesting this guy along with SNAP. The article, by Dylan Lovan, gratuitously inserts a quote slamming the Catholic Church (who is not involved here).

"He's still a threat" to children, said Cal Pfeiffer, who was abused by a Catholic priest as a young student in Louisville in the late 1950s and early 60s.

Really now, was it necessary to drag the Catholics into it in order to write an article on a tiny church who willingly ordained a pedophile as a Pentecostal minister (and hasn't been accused of doing anything since?) Sure, it displays either a courageous act of forgiveness and redemption or else a stupendous lack of good judgement. (I'm for the latter.)

But it ain't a Catholic story and keep us out of it.

Now if the guy were Roman Polanski, the media might be easier on him.

Calling King George

Does anyone see a problem with statements like these?

"[Obama] must be prepared to take power and rule from Day 1."

Valerie Jarrett and the Transition Team need to do a basic philosophy check before they open their mouths.

Last time I checked, we had a little "Continental Dispute" in which we threw "rulers" overboard in this country in favor of a representative democracy in which our elected representatives lead, not rule.

For those following the wildly poor decision making going on in my workplace, we have a new fiat. We will now work ten hour days instead of twelve. Oh, the benevolence.
